CAN I DRIVE ON THE MOTORWAY?

At the moment, you can only have driving lessons on motorways after you’ve passed your driving test. Some newly-qualified drivers take lessons through the voluntary Pass Plus scheme. However, from 4 June 2018, you will be able to drive on the motorway in your normal driving lessons.

CAN I DO A REFRESHER COURSE?

Yes, if you have been off the road for a while or lost your confidence driving, then a refresher course could be just what you need.
Refresher driving lessons are available at £20 per hour.

WHAT IS PASS PLUS?

If you have passed your test recently and are looking for a way of developing your skills on the road, then Pass Plus will be the right thing for you. You will be able to enhance your skills for a variety of road situations along with gaining motorway experience, you may also receive a discount from your insurance provider.

Pass Plus is a practical training course that takes at least 6 hours, designed for drivers to improve their skills and drive more safely. It can be taken at any time although it should be most useful to new drivers in the year after passing their test. The learner will need a minimum of 6 hours depending on how well they achieve during the lessons.

Successfully completing the course may help you get a discount on your car insurance. You will need your Pass Plus certificate and the amount of discount depends on the insurance company. Not all insurers offer Pass Plus discounts.

6 hours - £160

You will need a Pass Plus registered approved driving instructor (ADI) to teach you.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY OF THE DRIVING TEST?

On the day you take your test, you will have a two hour lesson*. The first hour will be practical with your instructor and the second hour will be sitting your exam. You will need to bring your provisional licence and your theory pass certificate.

Your instructor will be with you until your examiner calls your name in the waiting room. The examiner will check your provisional licence and address is all accurate. They will ask you if you would like your instructor present in the test and they will ask if you would like your instructor present for the debrief at the end - which we highly recommend.

On the way to the car (this will be the same car you have had your lessons in) you will perform an eye test for the examiner.
The examiner will go through some of the 'show me, tell me' questions (some questions will be asked at the test centre, some can be asked whilst out on the road). The examiner will then explain how the test will run - and then off you go!

* If your exam over runs, then you may be charged for that time.

IF I HAVE PENALTY POINTS on my licence CAN I STILL LEARN TO DRIVE?

If you have received penalty points then you will need to let us know on your first lesson and your instructor can advise you. If you need further advice then please see on the link below.

The courts can fine you and ‘endorse’ your driving record with penalty points if you’re convicted of a motoring offence.
Endorsements must stay on your driving record for 4 or 11 years, depending on the offence.

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?

You must give at least 48 hours’ notice to your instructor if you wish to cancel or re-arrange a booked driving lesson. Failure to do so may result in your instructor charging you the full amount for that driving lesson. For example, if your lesson is on a Wednesday at 1pm, you must inform the instructor on the Monday before 1pm. Anything after that will be a charged lesson.
