WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET STARTED?

Once you have applied for your provisional licence you can contact us to book your lessons in, although you won't be able to start driving on the road until your provisional licence has arrived and been checked by one of the instructors. This would happen on your first lesson.

We will need to know your date of birth to prove your entitlement to drive. Changes to driving licences came into effect on 8th June 2015 so that driving licences now consists of simply the photocard. Endorsements, penalty points and driving bans will no longer be recorded on driving licences, but will instead only be accessible online. For insurance purposes, before your first driving lesson your Instructor is required to check your full licence details to see the vehicles you’re allowed to drive, and to check for penalty points and disqualifications. The consequences for not checking the above are very serious.

You must follow these simple steps before the first lesson
You’ll need to generate a code which will allow your instructor to check your licence details. You will need:

Your driving licence
Your national insurance number
Your home postcode

Go to this website:
https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

Step one
Enter your driving licence number, national insurance number and postcode as shown on your driving licence.

Step two
Click on “share licence information”. This creates a code. The code is case sensitive, can only be used once, and is only valid for 21 days.

Step three
Pass the code to your Instructor together with the last eight digits of your driving licence number.

In advance of your first driving lesson your Instructor will view your licence details on line. Be aware that your Instructor is encouraged to save a screenshot as evidence of the licence entitlement check.

Please note, you should also produce your photocard licence for ID inspection on your first lesson. It is your responsibility to provide your Instructor with proof that you have a valid licence to drive, before the commencement of your first lesson. If you fail to provide this proof, your Instructor is entitled to refuse to conduct the lesson but still charge you.

TAKING YOUR DRIVING TEST

At the stage you are ready to sit your driving test, SkyDrive can offer mock tests with a previously qualified driving examiner to get an indication of where you are before taking the real test.

On the day you take your test, you will have a two hour lesson*.
The first hour will be practical with your instructor and the second hour will be sitting your exam.

You will need to bring your provisional licence and your theory pass certificate.

Your instructor will be with you until your examiner calls your name in the waiting room. The examiner will check your provisional licence and address is all accurate. They will ask you if you would like your instructor present in the test and they will ask if you would like your instructor present for the debrief at the end - which we highly recommend.

On the way to the car (this will be the same car you have had your lessons in) you will perform an eye test for the examiner.
The examiner will go through some of the 'show me, tell me' questions (some questions will be asked at the test centre, some can be asked whilst out on the road). The examiner will then explain how the test will run - and then off you go!

* If your exam over runs, then you may be charged for that time.

PASS PLUS

If you have passed your test recently and are looking for a way of developing your skills on the road, then Pass Plus will be the right thing for you. You will be able to enhance your skills for a variety of road situations along with gaining motorway experience, you may also receive a discount from your insurance provider.

Pass Plus is a practical training course that takes at least 6 hours, designed for drivers to improve their skills and drive more safely. It can be taken at any time although it should be most useful to new drivers in the year after passing their test. The learner will need a minimum of 6 hours depending on how well they achieve during the lessons.

Successfully completing the course may help you get a discount on your car insurance. You will need your Pass Plus certificate and the amount of discount depends on the insurance company. Not all insurers offer Pass Plus discounts.

6 hours - £160

You will need a Pass Plus registered approved driving instructor (ADI) to teach you.

short test booking

If your looking for an instructor for an upcoming test? SkyDrive can help. You will need to have an assessment done by one of the instructors at least 2 weeks before the test. At this point your instructor will check to see if you are up to the standard required to sit the test. Please be aware that your instructor could advise you to either take more lessons or to move your test date as you may not be test ready just yet. The instructor will do this to make sure you have the best possible chance of passing your test first time and feeling confident in your driving ability.

REFRESHER COURSES

Have you been off the road for a while or lost your confidence driving? Then a refresher course could be just what you need.
Refresher driving lessons are available at £20 per hour.

Block booking: 2 hours - £40
Block booking: 4 hours - £80

Failure to do so may result in your instructor charging you the full amount for that driving lesson.
